Wanneer U hier terechtkwam omdat U ‘ hotel in rijstvelden Ubud ‘ Googelde, dan is de kans groot dat U iets hebt met de natuur. Anders had U wel ‘ hotel in centrum Ubud ‘ ingegeven. Dat lijkt me logisch. Wel, Tina is ook een natuurliefhebster en vrij geobsedeerd door de ijsvogel, nadat ze er een glimp van had opgevangen aan de overkant van het rijstveld. Ze was dan ook erg enthousiast toen ze me onderstaande foto kon tonen.
De Javaanse IJsvogel of ‘Halcyon cyanoventris’ werd door Tina gespot in het rijstveld waarop ze, vanuit haar kamer, uitkijkt. Veel ijs is er niet te vinden op Bali, daarom vind ik de Engelse benaming ‘Javanese Kingfisher’ iets duidelijker.
Barry Wobbes beschrijft dit diertje in zijn blog met de, voor Vlamingen, wat misleidende titel ‘Vogelen op Bali (1997)‘ als volgt:
“ … Ook de spectaculaire 25 cm grote Javaanse ijsvogel (Halcyon cyanoventris) met rode snavel, hemelsblauwe staart en handpennen, paarse rug en roodbruine kop en borst kon nog een plekje vinden in de rijstvelden.”

1. Where ?
In the country-side that surrounds Ubud situated at the very heart of Bali, you will be conducted on a variety of trails according to the cycle of the seasons

We meet on : Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings at the sign of the Bali Bird Walks or Murni’s Warung (see map).
Time 09.00 am
Following a brief introductory talk, we set off on our walk, returning for Lunch – 12.30 pm
to leisurely take our fill and recapitulate the morning’s discoveries
3. “What Will I See” – Full List of Sightings
Birds over 100 species are found around Ubud, of which you are bound to see 30 or so, including Indonesian endemics such as: Java Kingfisher, Bar-winged Prinia, Black-winged Starling, Scarlet-headed Flowerpecker, Java Sparrow, and many brilliant birds.
You will also have occasion to see: Birdwing and Swallowtail other Butterflies, different types of Rice Cultivation, rustic temples and monuments, magnificent trees, stunning scenery, wildflowers.
